Vegetable Seed Variety Information

Kale

(Brassica olearacea)

Sow between March and August; it can also be sown in pots or trays indoors for salad leaves harvested all year round. Kale, like Broccoli, contains a chemical believed to have potent anti-cancer properties. Until the end of the Middle Ages, kale was one of the most popular green vegetables in Europe. Today, one may differentiate between varieties according to the stem’s low, intermediate or high length. Kale can taste sweeter and more favourable after exposure to frost, and it freezes well.
