Leeks prefer well-drained soil in the sun or semi-shade. Sow seeds outdoors in early spring in a well-prepared seed bed. In Summer, lift the seedlings carefully and plant 15 – 38 cm apart, making 15cm deep holes and inserting seedlings as far as the first leaf. Then fill the hole with water, NOT SOIL. Earth up the stems as growth develops and harvests in Autumn / Winter.
